Akshay Bhatia held off a red hot Alejandro Tosti in a three hole playoff to come out victorious in ST 12 with a final score of -10. This is Bhatia’s second win with SwingThought. Tosti put up a valiant effort on the second day, starting the day at T14, then shooting a nine under 63 to force a three hole playoff.

Bhatia wins this week after making some noise on the PGA Tour with a T9 finish at the Safeway Open and a hot -8 start at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am. Tosti also had a hot start going into this event coming off three straight victories.

Bhatia credits this win to his experiences on the PGA. Having higher level competition rounds under his belt has helped calm him and keep him grounded so that he can come out on top.

“I wasn’t playing great starting the year, but just being able to play two competitive rounds instead of Monday qualifiers helped me get more confident I can see where my game is at,” Bhatia said.

Bhatia started his day rough  until an eagle on number three helped get his mind right. The third hole also ended up being his last hole, where later he bested Tosti in a playoff with a birdie, while Tosti made par.

“The eagle on three was great, hit two really good shots there and it was just kind of scrambling all day until I started to hit some good iron shots,” Bhatia said.

The wave of emotion that comes after winning an event like this hit Bhatia after his made putt in the playoff. The feeling of winning came easy as his mental game prepared him for these moments.

“I was relieved, and the big thing I always tell myself is that this is the situation I always want to be in every tournament, and this is your time to show off,” Bhatia said.

Next up SwingThought stays on the east coast for ST13 at Rivertowne CC in Mt. Pleasant, SC. They then get going across the country for ST14 at Soboba Springs in San Jacinto California.
